Mission

Victims of domestic violence need a safe place for their pets! We provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter for dogs, cats and other domesticated animals while victims flee abusive homes. Reuniting pets with their owners as soon as safe.

Success Story

When Violet called our 24-hour crisis line one early evening, she didn't know how long she had to talk. Her ex-boyfriend had been served with a temporary protective order that was supposed to keep her safe, but he had repeatedly broken into her home in violation of the order--a dangerous sign of increased lethality.

She was terrified that he would retaliate against her by hurting one of her eight cats and two parrots. Without hesitation, Ahimsa House staff helped transport her animals to a safe location that same day. All ten pets remained safe in foster homes until Violet's abuser was found guilty of violating his order of protection and placed behind bars.

Their veterinary care, including vaccinations, preventive medicine, and spay/neuter surgeries, totaled over $2,900. Thanks to our supporters, we have never had to turn a client away due to lack of space or resources. We are able to help any victim of domestic violence with pets in Georgia regardless of the type or number of animals our clients have in their lives. Because of our supporters, human and animal victims of domestic violence all across Georgia are able to make it to safety and start their new lives together, as a family.
