Mission

An organization founded and run by Latina immigrant women in the San Francisco Bay Area with a dual mission of promoting personal transformation and building community power for social and economic justice.

Success Story

My name is Blanca and I am an immigrant woman from Mexico. During the pandemic, I came across Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) looking for legal help. I joined one of their general meetings, which is when I got in touch with one of their staff and expressed my work permit concerns. The next day I was referred to La Raza Centro Legal, where they helped me renew my work permit within 3 months, which was super fast and at no cost!

Aside from getting legal help, I have always been intrigued by MUA's work. This is why I joined a second meeting and heard their organizers speak about the work they do, which inspired me to continue to attend trainings through MUA to grow my leadership.

There have been many struggles that I have faced in this country as an immigrant but I can say that since I came to MUA I have seen my personal transformation. I now work at a non-profit that focuses on bettering public schools for Hispanic and African American children. Although it is part-time, I am doing something that I'm passionate about and is related to what I studied in Mexico.

I know I still have much more to learn, but I am very happy and ready to continue learning and participating at Mujeres Unidas y Activas!
