Phyllis' daughter told her she should get a mammogram. But she procrastinatedand, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was cost, she never got around to it. Finally, she called the Planned Parenthood clinic in her community. There she had her first mammogram. Because she met the age and income requirements, she qualified for services provided through Planned Parenthood's contract with the state's Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program.

Unfortunately, Phyllis' exam revealed a large mass. Planned Parenthood referredher to a collaborating organization that provides help to our clients who need further diagnostic or treatment services.

With their help, Phyllis had further testing which confirmed that she had cancer. Thanks to the generosity of several physicians, Phyllis was able to obtain a mastectomy and is currently receiving chemotherapy.

Phyllis is typical of many of many of our clients. She is employed, but has no health insurance. She is married, but her husband is waiting for disability benefits, so there is no opportunity for health insurance through his employment. Planned Parenthood was her healthcare provider. We need to be there for women like Phyllis.
